Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a disabling condition that is characterized by a pervasive and persistent low mood that is accompanied by low self-esteem and by a loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. MDD adversely affects a person’s family, personal, work, or school life, interferes with sleeping and eating habits, and in most cases a person’s overall health.
This severe form of depression is typically treated with antidepressant medications and counseling, but for some people, even these treatments fail. This is known as treatment-resistant Major Depressive Disorder and for which Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation(TMS) may be an effective treatment option.
